Meet Jean DeFrances 

What is your craft of choice? Quilting

How long have you been doing this? About 40 years

What inspired you to start? My mother. She had taught me to sew and when she started quilting, I decided to do that because I wasn’t making my own clothes any longer.

Do you work with your own designs or enjoy patterns?  I enjoy patterns.

One of Jean’s recent projects is this Quilt of Valor, from a quilt pattern called “Tribute” by Pat Sloan, photographed last fall before it was quilted.

What is your favorite notion? My seam ripper – it get used a lot.

What is your favorite brand of fabric? Rather than a particular brand (of fabric), I am drawn to the color and design.

Do you enjoy music, audiobooks, or movies in the background while you craft? No, I just enjoy the hum of my sewing machine.
