Makers by nature are very giving creatures. We like to make things and especially like to make things for a good cause. We found these good ideas to share and welcome your great ideas as well. Leave a comment of something you make and share.  

Knitting hats for newborns or preemies

We know a customer of ours, a ‘lovely woman named Anita’ knits hats for newborns out of Baby Blossom yarns and donates them to hospitals.

We also know of a specific organization called ‘Hats for Zoe’ that does the same thing for newborns and preemies. Named for baby Zoe, the group in based in Virginia.

Making dog bandanas

We learned of GroovyPaws.co that handcrafts wearables for dogs and donates 10% of sales to no kill shelters and farms. How fun is this?

Making a dog kerchief is a fun, quick make. Grab some cute dog fabric or your favorite batiks or prints and make a few for your fur baby. Here’s a free over the collar bandana pattern from Lorri Nune Maker.

Making pillowcases

We host a Friday sew day for the local chapter for Ryan’s Case for Smiles in our store. Typically held the second Friday of the month, a bustling group makes their way with sew machines in tow and makes a bounty of pillowcases every month. We are also a drop off location for cases if you can’t make an in-person sew day. 

Earlier this year we shared the quantity of pillowcases produced by the Palm Beach-Broward-Martin county chapter. And we make a mention of it again as September is when the annual Miles of Pillowcase Smiles campaign begins. 

Held in September to coincide with Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, all the chapters nationwide work towards a common goal of creating 55,000 pillowcases.
